Mr. Ernest Ogbozor
Our third guest speaker of the semester was Mr. Ernest Ogbozor, a man who used to be a Red Cross worker in Nigeria and now currently is a PhD student at the School of Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University. Throughout the meeting, he talked with great details about his job in Nigeria. He described his job to us with love and enthusiasm. He explained why there was conflict in Nigeria and that there were courageous refugees, despite of being displaced themselves, volunteering for a greater cause to help their own people.
Throughout the meeting, he strongly encouraged anyone who wants to work with displaced populations. He also shared a painful memory of witnessing the dead bodies of over 100 people in one of his working trips. It can be said that he has made a strong impression on those that attended the meeting as a courageous, wonderful, and loving person. He shed the light on one of the most dangerous but worthwhile jobs and why it is so important to help those in need. He also proved that at the end of the day, we all are human beings; ethnic or religious boundaries have no meaning when it comes to the securing of the physical, mental, and emotional well being for those who were displaced. In the end, he proved to us that the most beautiful thing about humans is that we are willing to risk our lives for the bettering of less fortunate people; it is our job and duty to preserve that tradition.
